Careers Events in June & July

Dear Parent / Guardian

Careers Events coming up

I hope this letter finds you all well. It seems incredible that your young person has only 4 weeks left of their first year!

This letter is just a quick reminder of what is coming up in Careers over the next few weeks to help students plan their future:

21 June - University Information Day at Sussex University

  • An opportunity for all students to explore Higher Education and choose a trial lecture of interest.
  • No lessons that day - absences will be recorded.
  • Final sign up is 9.00am on Monday 17 June. The student letter ishere.

25 June - Personal Statement Writing Day - in college

  • Over 15 universities are attending to help students plan their UCAS Personal Statements. Normal timetable and students will sign up for activities around their lessons - Google Form with programme and times to be sent to students this week.

1-5 July - Work Experience week

  • All students should now have placements in-person or virtual (and used the Unifrog Placement Tool if it isan in-person placementplease remember to check your email as you need to give consent to the placement). A few may have their placement outside this week due to availability (your consent will still be needed if not in the holidays). If that is the case, they can use this week to research their next steps - Careers is open.
  • Those still looking can let us know they are interested in virtual placements via the google formhere. They will then still need to register for it using thislink gives them more information about each session.

8 - 12 July - recording WEX in tutorial and Employability Awards

  • All students will be logging their work experience on Unifrog and adding to their Employability Awards. Any students who have not logged work experience will be contacted and required to complete it in the Autumn term.

I will be in touch in September about more help with UCAS, apprenticeships and direct employment. If in the interim you have any further questions please contact careers@varndean.ac.uk

Best wishes

Jo Hambleton, Assistant Principal
