Autumn Report Cards |
Dear Parents, Carers & Guardians The Autumn Report Card will be published at 3.00pm on Monday 18 November on MyVarndean for students and through our Varndean Parent Portal. If parents/carers are yet to register for the parent portal then please do so via our website. Our student community is thriving with all learners making excellent progress and we hope you find that the report card reinforces this. Report cards indicate the progress of learners within 3 key areas; Engagement in Learning, Independent Learning and Overall progress. Definitions of these measures can be found within the report cards. You will also find feedback from teachers on how further progress can be achieved. For all learners, we have indicated a "minimum target grade". The minimum target grade has been statistically generated from GCSE performance using national data and provides a useful benchmark from where we can measure progress. Students are then awarded two progress grades for each of their subjects: Current Grade = How well the student is currently achieving in the subject. The evidence on which we base the judgement comes from Key Assessments completed in the period since the last report card (or the beginning of the year) Working towards grade = Based on key assessments and approaches to learning so far, if a student was to continue making the same level of progress for the remainder of the course then they will likely achieve the following grade in their final assessment. To further support our Year 2 A level and GCSE students to prepare for their final exams, we will be holding full mid-year practice exams during our internal assessment week which will take place from Monday 3 February to Friday 7 February 2025. The results of these assessments will feature on mark books and feed into the Spring report cards which are made available in early March. Our Parent/Carer Consultation Evening for Year 1 and Foundation Year students is taking place online on Wednesday 4 December and Thursday 12 December, appointments can be made between 5.00pm - 8.00pm. Details on how to book these appointments will be sent to students and parents shortly. All Year 1 and Foundation parents are welcome to book an appointment, but we would particularly like to see the parents/guardians of students whose progress is below the expected level. Our Year 2 parent/carer consultations will be on Thursday 13 March 2025 where we will give feedback on performance on the mid-year practice exams. We hope you will find the Report Cards useful. If you experience any technical issues then please contact our IT Support team here and we will do our best to help. Best wishes James Gordon, Deputy Principal |
