The applications for the University of Surrey’s 2018 Residential Summer Schools are now open! I am attaching a copy of our brochure detailing our summer schools; this year we are running programmes in 23 exciting subject areas! Whilst we are already oversubscribed for many of those subjects, we are still actively seeking applications for our English; Languages; Sports; and Engineering & Physical Sciences summer schools. If you have committed and talented students who you think would benefit from spending a week at university focussing on learning subject specific courses at higher education level please send them the details of our programme. Students will have the opportunity to work with undergraduates, academic staff, and students from other schools. The programmes will include lectures, seminars, practical activities, and a variety of fun social events in the evenings.

Who is Eligible?
Priority will be given to students from currently underrepresented groups in Higher Education who meet one or more of the below criteria:
- Live in a neighbourhood with low progression to university (as defined by home postcode)
- From a non-professional household
- Neither parent has attended university
- From a low income family (eligible for Free School Meals in last six years)
- From Black and minority ethnic groups (specifically Black Caribbean and other Black pupils)
- Have been, or are currently, a looked after child
- From gypsy and traveller communities
- Are a refugee
- Have a disability
- Are a young carer
- Are an estranged student (post-16 student with no communication with either biological parent and the situation is not expected to change)
The University of Surrey will also pay for travel to and from the summer school, accommodation on the university campus, and meals and refreshments during the week.
