Important: new student timetable |
Dear Parent/Carer Please find a copy below of a message to new students in preparation for the start of term on Monday 9 September. with best wishes Communications team, sent on behalf of James Gordon, Deputy Principal Dear Student I hope our new students have had an enjoyable induction session today, it was certainly good to see you all on site and getting involved with the activities. A reminder that your timetable is now visible on our student portal which is called My Varndean. To access My Varndean please go to this linkMy Varndean. Students who were not able to attend their induction day will need to complete some tasks over the weekend in readiness for their first lessons on Monday. Please access the resources below: The IT induction is a step-by-step guide to set you up on your student email, Google Suite accounts and importantly our student portal, MyVarndean. Once you have set up MyVarndean you will be able to view your timetable. It is importantnot to take a screenshot of your timetable but rather to check your online timetable regularly over the weekend and before you attend your first lesson next week.If you are unable to see your timetable for whatever reason please arrive at college on Monday 9 September at the main reception, no later than 8.30am where staff will be on hand to assist you. Planned Study All students studying A levels or Level 3 vocational subjects will have "planned study" added to timetables during next week. Please follow the link below for a reminder of the purpose of planned studyhere. Enrichment Unless you are studying the IB all year 1 students are required to add a period of enrichment to their programmes, this should appear on your timetable. Timetable enquiries The college day starts at 8.40am and ends at 5.05pm and full-time students are required to be available to attend college at any point during the college day. Please note that we are unable to process changes to lesson times unless there are particular medical or safeguarding reasons which would have been disclosed during enrolment. If you have any queries about your timetable or programme of study you should speak to your personal tutor in your allocated tutor lesson or you can drop into the study cafe office (located upstairs in the canteen) at lunchtimes or from 4.15pm where senior staff will be available for you to talk to. ID cards We are very much looking forward to seeing you next week. Please ensure you have your college ID with you at all times. You need this to access the building and register for your lessons. You could be asked to present your ID at any time by a member of staff and it's important that you are able to do this. If you are yet to collect your college ID card then please go to the main reception on your first day. If you need a photograph taken then please go to Room 18 on your first day. Parent/Carer Portal The Parent Portal is the quickest, easiest way for all parents/carers to access information about individual student attendance, report cards, course details and how to contact tutors. Registering for this is simple: you will need the student number of the young person in your care. Once you visit the Parent Portal section of the website, we will guide you from there. Parent Portal: https://parent.varndean.ac.uk/ Widening Participation At Varndean College we work with local and national universities to give all of our students equal access to Higher Education and higher skills employment.
