Work Experience Week for Year 1 students

Dear Parent / Guardian

Work experience week: Monday 30 June - Friday 4 July

I hope this letter finds you all well and that your young person continues to thrive at College.

As you will know, our first year students have their work experience week from 30 June.  This is where they will either complete an in-person placement or virtual/ or both.  There is an information sheet HERE to explain the value of work experience.

This is just a quick update on where students should be with their planning of work experience:

  • By Friday 14 March : Complete a google form to let the Careers team know if they need more help or have found a placement. Careers will work through the responses sending them advice and ideas. This has been emailed to them.
  • By Easter: have started to firm up their 'in person' placement ideas or their virtual alternative.
  • Between Easter and May half-term: They should be using the work experience Placement Tool on Unifrog to log their in person placement (if they have arranged one).  They only need to use this placement tool if their in-person placement is during term time.  If it's in the holidays or if they are only completing a 'virtual' opportunity, using the Placement Tool is not necessary.
  • By May half-term: all 'in person' placements should be confirmed and logged.

Students will also be sent the following information - WEX frequently Asked Questions.

WEX Placement Tool:

Students know how to use the Placement Tool. Here is a user guide in case you want to help.

The students know that they need to let the employer know to expect an email from Unifrog regarding their placement. The employer will then upload their insurance and risk assessment documents.  An email is then sent to you as the parent/guardian to agree the placement and then we sign off.

I hope this helps to clarify the position with placements.

Best wishes

Jo Hambleton, Assistant Principal
