Reminder: Widening Participation Parent Launch Invitation
October 2018
Dear Parent/Carer,
Varndean College would like to invite you to join us at the University of Brighton on the eve of Tuesday 16th October where we will be launching our Widening Participation Programme.

When students arrive at the college we ask them to complete a Widening Participation Survey as part of their enrolment. This helps us identify students who are eligible to join this fantastic opportunity.

Students in the past who have signed up to join our Widening Participation programme have had the chance to attend events and activities that will help them decide if applying to university after Varndean is the right choice for them.

We work with the University of Brighton, the University of Sussex, University of Chichester and ‘Into University’ to provide a valuable insight into what studying at university would be like through visits to local university campuses, degree subject taster days held at the universities, HE student mentoring plus many other opportunities to participate in to help with this important decision.

The universities hold these events to help students. There is no obligation on the students’ part to attend one of the universities at the end of their time at Varndean. In fact, if they decide as a result of their involvement with the WP programme they do not want to apply to university at all, this is fine too. The purpose of the programme is to help them make the best choice whatever route they choose to finally take.

If you are able to, and would like to attend to hear more about what Varndean Widening Participation can offer your son or daughter, please email me at with ‘WP EVENT’ as the subject. Varndean College have been given 100 places at this event and I will need to allocate these on a ‘first come first served’ basis. Further details will be sent out nearer the time.

I look forward to meeting you on the 16th,

Cordelia Dobbie
