Vacancy for parent governor on Varndean College corporation
To the Parents of students under the age of 19 years attending Varndean College
November 2018
Dear Parent/Carer,
The College has two Parent Governors on its Governing Body, the Corporation, and both positions will become vacant by the 31st December 2018.
Nominations for the parent governor vacancy may be made by parents of students under the age of 19 (on the date of appointment as a Parent Governor) enrolled at the College.  The term “parent” includes natural parent, adoptive parent, legal guardian and step-parent. Parents of students attending the College may nominate themselves, although individuals, who are parents of students and also students themselves, may not be Parent Governors.
A parent governor normally serves for a term of two years. The Corporation meets in the evening approximately twice a term.  Parents are invited to submit nominations to the Clerk to the Governors using the enclosed nomination form (doc click here, pdf click here).  We also enclose a Governor job description/person specification (click here).
The completed nomination form must be returned either by post, email ( or by hand to the College reception by midday on Friday 23rd November 2018.   No nominations will be accepted after that date.  Should more than one nomination be received, an election will take place and in this regard it would be helpful if you would enclose with your nomination form, a short personal statement about yourself, of not more than 100 words.  Statements will be circulated with the ballot papers should a ballot prove necessary.  If only two nominations are received the College will proceed to the notification of the result.
I do hope you would like to become involved and look forward to receiving your nomination form.  If you have any queries, please contact me (
Yours sincerely
