Welcome Back to Year 2 at Varndean Sixth Form Coll |
Dear Parent/Guardian, Please see the email sent to all Year 2 students this afternoon. Dear Students, I hope you've had a restful and enjoyable summer break and are now looking forward to returning for your second year at college. A reminder that teaching begins on Tuesday 9th September. Please do not attend on Monday 8th September, as this day is set aside for welcoming our new Year 1 students. You can use Monday to ensure you've completed your Year 2 progression tasks for each of your subjects. These will form an important part of your first lessons. If you haven't yet finished them, there's still time! You can find all the tasks here: Summer Progression Tasks Your new timetable will be available on My Varndean from Monday 8th September at 11am. Please check it carefully to confirm the start time and location of your first lesson on Tuesday. If you have any questions about your timetable or programme of study, please speak to your tutor in the first instance. Alternatively, senior staff will be available at the Study Cafe (upstairs in the canteen) at lunchtime or from 4:15 pm each day to support you. As you enter this crucial final year, I want to take a moment to highlight just how important good attendance is. Our leavers this summer achieved some fantastic results, and it's worth noting that the average attendance of students achieving A*-B grades or Distinction and above was 95%. In contrast, those who achieved E/D grades or a Pass had an average attendance of 85%. The message is clear that regular attendance makes a real difference. We'll be monitoring attendance closely this year. If you are unwell or unable to attend, please make sure you follow the correct absence reporting procedures. These can be found here: https://www.varndean.ac.uk/absence/ I wish you all the best as you settle back into college life, and I look forward to seeing you on campus next week. Warm regards, James Gordon Deputy Principal |
