Dear Parent / Carer(s),

Following our earlier communication regarding progression from the Foundation Year to Advanced Level study at Varndean Sixth Form College for September 2026, we are writing to provide an update on the next stage of the internal progression process.

We are pleased to confirm that students who have submitted their internal Foundation Year application will now receive one of two communications from the College as part of our progression review.

Students receiving a progression confirmation email

If the young person in your care receives an email with a conditional offer, this indicates that they have submitted an application with appropriate course choices and that their current progress suggests they are on track towards meeting the progression criteria for Advanced Level (Level 3) study.

This communication is intended to provide reassurance that their planned programme of study aligns well with their current progress and future intentions.

Students invited to a progression discussion

Some students will be invited to attend a progression interview. These meetings form a normal and supportive part of our progression process and provide an opportunity for students to meet with specialist staff to review their application and next steps.

The purpose of the discussion is to:

• provide personalised advice and guidance about course choices,
• ensure that proposed study programmes are well matched to students' current progress and future aspirations, and
• identify any additional support, guidance or preparation that may be beneficial in the lead-up to examinations and final outcomes.

These conversations help us work collaboratively with students so that they are making informed decisions and are supported towards the most appropriate and successful progression pathway for them. Students will continue to receive guidance and support following their meeting, and we encourage them to engage positively with the advice provided.

Next Steps

Students should continue to check their College email accounts regularly for communication regarding either confirmation of progression or interview arrangements.
