UNIVERSITY INFORMATION DAY - TUESDAY 23 JUNE
UNIVERSITY INFORMATION DAY - TUESDAY JUNE 23RD
Y1 students will spend the day at EITHER UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX OR UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON
Dear Parent/Carer,
The annual Y1 University Information Day is approaching fast. The email below has details of the event and all students in Year 1 have received it (on May 21st). The event is mandatory for all Y1 students. We are not suggesting all students should go to university when they leave Varndean Sixth Form College, but we do want them to have a day where they can see what it would be like so they can make an informed choice either way. Please encourage your young person to complete the Google Form and make a subject taster/talk selection - the Google Form link is contained in the email below. Students will need to open it using their college email address.
I have also included a link to our annual Careers Survey which gives students a chance to comment on the Careers service provision in the college - this closes at the end of June - we read every comment they make and try to improve what we offer based on their suggestions. If they haven't told us what they think yet, we would love to hear from them. The survey takes about 3 mins. Link is also below.
If you have any questions of your own about anything related to Careers and the support I can offer your young person, please do email me at cvd@varndean.ac.uk.
Best wishes, Cordelia
Dear Student,
The event above is for all Year 1 students.
The aim of the day is to help students who are not sure yet, decide if uni is for them (or not). The college is NOT trying to make everyone go to university!! Students will choose a subject taster and this will determine if they spend the day at University of Brighton OR University of Sussex. The subject talks/tasters are specifically chosen to help students who already know they want to apply to uni start the application process. You DO NOT need to be interested in studying at Sussex or Brighton as all the information you will be given is generic and good for wherever you want to apply. Each year some students who had never thought they wanted to go or can't see themselves studying at a uni do change their minds......it's about giving everyone a fair opportunity to make a good choice for themselves based on knowledge and experience rather than guesswork and hearsay!!
You will listen to talks that will help you understand what it's like to be a university student, how the loans and repaying them (or perhaps not!) work and how to write a good Personal Statement (part of the UCAS application form)....
In the afternoon you will attend a subject taster - please use the link below to make your selection PLEASE ONLY SELECT ONE SUBJECT IN TOTAL EITHER FROM SECTION A OR SECTION B
Select your subject taster HERE
AND if you haven't already, please could you fill in the 2026 Careers Survey (takes 3 mins) HERE
If you have any questions, you can either email me or pop into room 71 during Weds lunchtime for the Careers 'drop-in'
I hope you all have a great half term,
Cordelia Dobbie
