Every year a significant number of Varndean College students leave and go on to fulfil their ambition of studying at university. Many others decide the university route is not for them and actively seek apprenticeships and work opportunities with local, regional and sometimes national organisations. Our teaching staff and experienced careers team have always done their best to support students in choosing the path that best suits the individual and their career aspirations.
To prepare our students for their next steps, whichever path they hope to follow, we offer them the opportunity to sign up for work experience. The placement itself ultimately fits around whatever the business is able to provide, but can either be an afternoon/morning once a week, one day job shadowing or a one-week block. Our employers kindly support our students so we try to fit with whichever model the employer prefers.
I am contacting you because the college would like to be able to offer more students a wide range of work experience opportunities, either because this is essential for entry to a degree course, or because their CV needs boosting for their first full time job.
Varndean College want to close the gap that has been identified nationally where employers feel young people are not work ready, and help our students grasp the demands of the workplace to enable them to ‘land running’.
If you believe your employer or business could offer one of our students a work experience opportunity, please do contact me. Any student placed would have expressed an interest in the sector your business operates in and would be able to meet with the employer before the placement is agreed.
