Parent Consultations and Report Cards |
Curriculum Update Report Cards, Parent/Carer Consultation and Progress Reviews - February 2025 Dear Student, Parents, Carers, Mid Year Exams Our Year 2 A level and our GCSE students completed their mid-year practice exams just before half term. It was clear how well students prepared for these, the experience would have helped prepare them for their final exams that start in May and June and the results of these exams have supported the teacher judgements within the report cards. Year 1 students will also complete their year 1 practice exams in early May. Report Cards - All students The spring Report Card will be published at 4 pm on Monday 3rd March 2025 on MyVarndean for students and through our Varndean Parent Portal. Report Cards will be available for all students. If parents/carers have yet to register for the parent portal, please do so via our website. Year 2 and Foundation year Parents consultations We welcome all year 2 and foundation year parents and carers to our parent/carer consultation evening but we would particularly like to see those students whose level of progress is falling below expectations. These take place on Thursday 13th March 5 pm -8 pm and will be online. The purpose of this consultation is primarily to give feedback on performance in the mid-year exams. Instructions on how to book and access the online consultations can be found here Exam leave for year 2 students starts on Monday 12th May 2025 with our revision week and for our foundation students lessons continue until the May Half term. The summer exam timetable details are now available on MyVarndean and the parent portal under the exams tab please do check the dates for your upcoming exams. With a little over 10 weeks before the exam season you will now start to see our teaching staff offering extra support sessions, workshops, and extension activities. All subjects also have incredibly detailed virtual learning environments which students can use to support their revision activities. It is worth noting that last year our A-level students on average gained a grade higher than their target grade. Put another way, they achieved grades that were 20% higher than they would have achieved at another college. I would encourage all students to fully utilise the wonderful support available so that they exceed their potential just like the students of 2023/24 did. If you experience any technical issues accessing the parent portal or My Varndean then please do contact our IT Support team here and we will do our best to help.
